What's an ebook?

An ebook is an electronic version of a printed book. You can download and read ebooks on a computer, a PDA, a portable reader (e.g., Kindle or Sony Reader Digital Book), or on a smartphone.

How do I purchase an ebook?

Zondervan ebooks are for sale at a wide variety of online retailers. Here is a list of sites where you can purchase Zondervan ebooks:

Sony Ebook Store
Amazon.com
eBooks.com
eFollet.com
eReader.com
Fictionwise
Powell’s Books
Mobipocket

Please read and understand the instructions for downloading ebooks given at the retailers’ websites. If you experience any difficulty downloading an ebook or if your ebook doesn’t function properly after you’ve purchased and downloaded it, please contact the retailer first. The retailer should be able to assist you and ensure that you download and keep a working ebook.

How can I get ebook reader software?

Zondervan offers ebooks in Adobe Reader, Microsoft Reader, eReader, Mobipocket Reader, Sony Reader, and ePub formats. All six reader programs are available as free downloads from the developers of the readers themselves. Please see the About Ebook Readers page for more details.

Zondervan also publishes books for the Sony Reader Digital Book and the Amazon Kindle, two popular, portable ebook readers.

I purchased a Zondervan ebook and I’ve found that I’m not able to copy and paste text from the ebook, print selections from the ebook, or move the ebook from device to device as I expected. Why is this?

All Zondervan ebooks are equipped with some degree of DRM, which stands for digital rights management. This means that you may not be able to copy and paste text from the file, you may not be able to print selections from the file, and your ability to copy the file from device to device will be limited.

Some retailers give a good description of the level of security placed on each ebook they sell. If the retailer doesn’t provide this information, use the information below as a guideline:

Adobe Reader: Limited Text Copying; Limited Printing

ePub Reader: Limited Text Copying; Limited Printing

eReader (Palm): No Text Copying; No Printing

Microsoft Reader: No Text Copying; No Printing

Mobipocket Reader: Limited Text Copying; No Printing

Sony Reader: No Text Copying; No Printing

When you purchase an ebook, the retailer should give you instructions for accessing your ebook and how (if at all) it can be transferred and accessed on other devices.

You may also want to seek support for your reader program or device if you feel it isn’t doing what you think it should. Adobe, Microsoft, Palm, Sony, Amazon (Kindle), and Mobipocket each provide technical support for their reader programs and devices at their web sites.

My computer crashed and now it seems I lost my ebook or I can no longer access my ebook. How can I get my ebook back?

Contact the retailer that sold you the ebook. The retailer should have a record of your original purchase and re-issue the file to you.

Another option is to visit the page www.HelpEbook.com and see if the information provided there is helpful to you.

Otherwise, you can send an email to ebook_issues@lightningsource.comLightning Source is an online distributor of Zondervan ebooks. When emailing Lightning Source, please be sure to include information about the ebook you purchased, the retailer that sold you the ebook, when you purchased the ebook, etc. The more information you give, the easier it is for them to help you.

I use a screen reader (like JAWS® from Freedom Scientific) to read electronic text on my computer. Can my screen reader read an ebook?

Zondervan ebooks are equipped with DRM or digital rights management. DRM protects the file from unauthorized copying and sharing. Unfortunately, the DRM poses some incompatibility problems with screen readers. In most cases, the screen reader is unable to read the ebook; therefore, we don’t recommend that you purchase Zondervan ebooks if you intend to read them using a screen reader.
