    Art Source 4.0

This software is compatible with Windows® 98, 2000, ME, and XP. It is also compatible with MacOS 10.1.x.

    Q. How can I tell if my computer meets the system requirements for this software?

    A. PC: There are several things you can tell by right-clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop and choosing Properties from the menu that pops up. The resulting screen will show you what kind of computer you have, which version of Windows you are running, and how much RAM you have installed.

If you double-click My Computer, then right-click on the drive you would like to install the software on and finally choose Properties, the resulting screen will tell you if you have enough hard drive space available.

Mac: By going to the Apple menu and choosing About this Computer, you will see the operating system (OS) that your computer is running, as well as how much memory is installed. Other information is also available.

    Q. I get an error when I try to open the Image Viewer that says iView Catalog Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close.  What is wrong?

    A. The problem is that the version of the iView Catalog Reader that came with the CD is not compatible with QuickTime 7.  They do have a download available now to correct this.  Please go to http://www.iview-multimedia.com/downloads/index.php?p=a and go to the middle section for the iView Catalog Reader.  Click on Win or Mac, and follow the directions on your screen.

    Q. Can I add text to an image?

    A. If you have a photo editing program installed on your computer, it is possible. If you need assistance doing this, please refer to the Help system of your installed program. Please note that you cannot edit images in a word processing program like Microsoft Word or Word Perfect.

    Q. Can I change the background of an image from white to transparent or another color?

    A. In versions 1 and 2 of this software, we used the TIF format to ensure all images were viewable on both Macintosh and Windows compatible computers. In versions 3 and 4, we converted the TIFs to JPG format because that seems to have become a standard file format. Unfortunately, we overlooked the transparency feature that was available in the TIF format while preparing files for versions 3 and 4.

There is a relatively simple work-around with Photoshop. To do this, open the appropriate JPG and go to the Image menu, select Mode, and select Bitmap. A dialog box will appear to confirm Resolution and Method. The resolution you can change if preferred and the Method should be set to Pattern Dither. Click OK. Then, do a Save As and select the TIF file format in the menu below the file name. Click Save. A dialog box will pop up asking you to select a compression method. Click OK.

When it is resaved, you should be able to import it into InDesign, PageMaker or QuarkXpress with the background transparent as required.

    Q. How do I search for a specific image?

    A. On the Find menu, select Find.  ArtSource searches file names, keywords, and captions.  Choose what you want to search for in the first drop down box.  In the middle field, set any restrictions.  In the third field, type the word(s) you want to find.  Check the box that says Wrap and select Show All.  Click Find.

    Q. How do I keep the Start screen from appearing every time I put the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive?

    A. Simply hold down the shift key as you close the drive. Do not let up for about 30 seconds or wait until you hear your drive stop spinning.

    Q. How do I insert the animated GIFs into my document?

    A. You can plug Art Parts Web Parts into your webpage by using webpage creation software (such as Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe PageMill). Please refer to the user's manual of your webpage creation software for instructions on how to "Place" or "Insert" a GIF file. Don't forget: There are two file versions supplied for each animation—one for use on light backgrounds, and one for use on dark (dark background file names start with a "d").

    Q. How can I print the Read Me file?

    A.  This Read Me file contains all of the F.A.Q.'s and other important information. Select print in your Internet Browser.

    Q. Every time I open the ArtSource 4 image catalog (ArtSource4.ivc), I see a screen that says "iView Catalog Reader" -- what is that?

    A.  This image appears every time you open the catalog. It will stay open for a default amount of time. To make it go away promptly, simply click your mouse on the window and the catalog will continue loading.

    Q. When I opened the catalog, there was a list of categories on the left. How can I get it back?

    A. Simply click on the Organize button in the toolbar and the category list will re-appear.

    Q. I have tried to "drag and drop" an image into my document using the document icon, but nothing happens. What's wrong?

    A. In order to drag and drop an image into a document, you must have the document open. This means that dragging an image over an application shortcut (alias for Mac users) and the taskbar (dock for Mac users) will not work either.

    Q. When I preview the GIF files, I can't see them move. What's wrong?

    A. Check to make sure you have QuickTime 6.x or newer installed on your computer. If not, go to the following website to download it (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ ).

Once you've installed it, restart your computer and try again. You will be able to preview the animation in Media view by pressing the Play button that appears under the GIF.

    Q. I want to know the details regarding the 60-day money-back guarantee. What are they?

    Q. I'm on the new Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and when I try to install to the Applications folder either nothing happens or I get a message that says, "... the folder Applications cannot be modified." What's wrong?

    A. If you are not the administrator of this computer you will be restricted from installing to the Applications folder itself, but you should be able to install to another location. If you are not the administrator and continue to have problems installing, see your system administrator.

    Q. On Tiger (MacOS 10.4), I did a full install and then ran ArtSource 4 from my hard drive. For some reason, I can't eject the disk. What is wrong?

    A. During installation a disk image of the iView Catalog Reader application was created on your desktop. If the disk image (the white icon that says iView Catalog Reader) is still there, simply drag it to your trash. Also, make sure the Start application is no longer running and try ejecting your disk again.

Please note that if you clicked launch from the Start application, but did not do a Full Install, the catalog is going to be opened from the CD-ROM and you will be unable to eject the disk while it is in use.

    Q. How do I register this software?

    A. You can register here online.

    Q. My question hasn’t been answered. Now what?

    A. Please click here technical support form and choose Software Technical Support from the first drop down menu.
