    The Expositor's Bible Commentary

There is an upgrade available to the Expositor's Bible Commentary in our new Pradis format. Please contact Zondervan Church Source at 800-727-3480 or thinkzcs@zondervan.com.

Compatibility: This software is compatible with Windows® 98, 2000, ME, XP and Windows NT®.

Please Note: The User’s Manual that came with your software is used with all of our software. There will be things mentioned in the manual that do not apply to the software you own. For example, there is a chapter on the Greek New Testament and Exhaustive Concordance. Unless you have The NIV Study Bible Complete Library, you do not have either the Greek New Testament or the Exhaustive Concordance. If you would like a text that is mentioned in the manual, but is not included on your CD, you can purchase the text on another CD-ROM. For more information, please visit our website.

    Q. How can I tell if my computer meets the system requirements listed on this software?

    A. There are several things you can tell by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop and choosing Properties. The resulting screen will show you what kind of computer you have, which version of Windows you are running, and how much RAM you have installed.

If you double-click on My Computer and then right-click on the drive you would like to install the software on and finally choose Properties, the resulting screen will tell you if you have enough hard drive space available.

    Q. I am just installing this software on a computer with Windows XP. When I open the program, it can't find the text. What is wrong?

    A. If you are receiving these error messages, answer “yes” to all of the messages. While in the program open the File menu; choose Preferences and Set Text Search Path. Type in the letter of the drive to which you installed the program. For example, if you installed it on your C drive, you would type C:\. From the File menu, choose Exit. On the next screen, select No, you do not want to save the session. When you restart the program open the File menu and select open text; you should have all of the text modules.

Note: The earlier version of this software (2.5) is not compatible with Windows 2000 or ME. If you have that combination, this solution may not fix the problem. If that is the case, you will need to upgrade to the current version. To do so, please contact Zondervan ChurchSource at 800-727-3480 or thinkzcs@zondervan.com.

    Q. When I open the program, no text shows up except for Verse Notes, or I get messages saying that Zondervan Reference Software can’t find the text. Why don't I have text?

    Q. I have one Zondervan CD-ROM already installed on my computer. I just purchased another CD. The new CD will not install; it says that the software is already installed. What is wrong?

    A. All of our software shares files. At the beginning of the installer, it checks to see if those files are already on the system and gets confused when it finds them from the other program you have. Please follow the steps below to install the software:

    1. Insert your CD-ROM into your drive while holding down the shift key for about 20 seconds to stop the auto run.
    2. Double-click My Computer.
    3. Right-click your CD-ROM drive and choose Explore.
    4. Double-click the Setup32 folder.
    5. Double-click Setup32.exe.
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions.

    Q. How do I get verses as an option on my insert menu in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect word processing program?

    A. To correct this problem in Microsoft Word:

    1. Close both Microsoft Word and Zondervan NIV software.
    2. From the Start menu (bottom left corner of the screen), choose Find.
    3. From the Find submenu choose Find File.
    4. Type zrsw97.dot (this template works for Microsoft Word 97 and 2000) in the Named box.
    5. When the file is found, click once to highlight it.
    6. From the Edit menu (top of the screen) choose Copy.
    7. From the Start menu (bottom left corner of the screen) choose Programs.
    8. In the Programs submenu, choose Windows Explorer.
    9. Double-click your C drive.
    10. Double-click Program Files.
    11. Double-click Microsoft Office.
    12. Double-click Office.
    13. Double-click Startup.
    14. From the Edit menu (top of the screen), choose Paste.
    15. Next, open Microsoft Word. Open the Tools menu, choose templates and addins.
    16. Click to add a check mark to the box next to zrsw97.dot (the box should be checked).
    17. Open the Insert menu. Insert verses should now be an option in the Insert Menu.
    18. Word 2000 note: You may have to click Add in the Templates and Addins menu and browse to the start up folder to get the template to show in the list.

To correct this problem in WordPerfect:

    1. Close both Word Perfect and Zondervan NIV software.
    2. From the Start menu (bottom left corner of the screen), choose Find.
    3. From the Find submenu choose Find File.
    4. Type ZRSWP8.wcm (this template works for WordPerfect 9 and 2000 also) in the named box.
    5. When the file is found, click to highlight it.
    6. From the Edit menu (top of the screen), choose Copy.
    7. From the Start menu (bottom left corner of the screen), choose Programs.
    8. From the Programs submenu choose Windows Explorer.
    9. Double-click the C drive.
    10. Double-click Program Files.
    11. Double-click Corel.
    12. Double-click Suite 8 (or Suite 9 or WordPerfect Office 2000).
    13. Double-click Macro.
    14. Double-click wpwin.
    15. From the Edit menu (top of the screen) choose Paste (the above path may differ slightly, but your main goal is to place the file wpwin inside Macro).
    16. Open WordPerfect. Open the Tools menu, choose Macro and select Play. It will bring up a list of files in the wpwin folder. Click once on ZRSWP8.wcm to highlight it, then click Play in the lower right corner. Go back to Tools/Macro/and it should now have ZRSWP8.wcm on the list.
    17. To activate the template, select the Tools menu, select Macro and ZRSWP8.wcm and a window will pop up asking you which verse(s) you want to insert.

    Q. How can I get my Zondervan software to export to my External Word Processor?

    Q. The program is asking me for a serial number. Where do I find that number?

    A. Use today’s date.

    Q. When I try to use the STEP Reader, I am always asked to insert the CD, as the books required cannot be otherwise accessed. However, during installation, I chose the full installation option and copied all the books onto my hard drive. Why can’t I access the STEP books without the CD?

    A. On your CD, all the books except the Bible texts are in two formats: Zondervan Reference Software format and STEP format. When you choose full installation, you only install the Zondervan Reference Software format. If you would like the books to be on your hard drive in STEP format also, you will need to manually install them. To do so:

    1. In our program, go to the Search menu and open the Step Reader.
    2. Go to the File menu and choose Library Management.
    3. On the left, you should see your hard drive and the CD that you have.
    4. Click on the CD and a list of Step books will display on the right.
    5. One at a time, click on each book on the right and drag it over the hard drive on the list. This will copy the files to your hard drive.

    Q. I have tried to use the STEP Reader, but get the error message that it is not installed properly. When I try to reinstall I get the message that it is already installed. What do I do?

    A. If you have Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT—to reinstall only the STEP reader:

    1. Hold down the shift key for about 20 seconds while inserting the CD–ROM.
    2. From the Start menu, choose Programs and Windows Explorer.
    3. Double-click your CD–ROM drive.
    4. Double-click the Setup32 folder.
    5. Double-click STEPset.exe.
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions.
    7. If you have Windows ME:
    8. Insert your CD–ROM while holding down the shift key for about 20 seconds to stop the auto run.
    9. Double-click My Computer (on your desktop).
    10. Right click on your CD–ROM drive and choose Explore.
    11. Double-click the Setup32 folder.
    12. Double-click STEPSet.exe
    13. Follow the onscreen instructions until they tell you the computer needs to be restarted and gives you the option of Yes or Cancel. Please choose Cancel.
    14. Open the Start Menu and choose Shutdown.
    15. Shut off the power to your computer when the screen displays the message that it is safe to do so.
    16. Wait about 30 seconds and power on your computer.
    17. Repeat steps 1 through 5. This time it should complete the installation without restarting. If it does ask you to restart again, click yes or OK and see what happens.

    Q. I have found that the STEP Reader component of the software does not contain a NIV Bible or any other Bible text. Is there a way of importing the Bibles into the STEP Reader?
    A. The Bible text does not work as well as others in STEP format because of its length and the linking of notes and other data to the Bible verses. We use our proprietary format because it is faster and more powerful than the STEP format. In our proprietary format, we can link a Greek word directly to the NIV word, which could not be done in STEP.

    Q. Is there a way to get chapter headings in the electronic version of the NIV like there are in the print Bible?

    A. Not at the current time. We may offer this feature in future editions.

    Q. When I open the program, I get the error message “invalid line found in file ZRS.ini.range =; lib”. What is wrong

    A. You are running the program from the 16-bit installation instead of the 32-bit installation. Please uninstall the software from the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and then reinstall using the 32-bit installation. To do so:

    1. Double-click My Computer (on your desktop).
    2. Right-click your CD–ROM drive and choose Explore.
    3. Double-click the Setup32 folder.
    4. Double-click Setup32.exe and follow the onscreen instructions.

    Q. I have unlocked the Greek demo and am now getting Greek Link errors. What is wrong

    A. To have the Greek work, you have to first unlock the Exhaustive Concordance. To correct the error:

    1. Double-click My Computer (on your desktop).
    2. Double-click your C drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double-click the Program Files folder.
    4. Double-click the Zondervan folder.
    5. Double-click the Reference folder.
    6. Delete the four files that begin with Greek.
    7. Unlock first the Exhaustive Concordance demo or full version before you unlock the Greek demo again.

    Q. How can I enter a verse to find every place that it is mentioned in the Commentary?

    A. Type the reference with no punctuation. For example: Heb 3 11

    Q. After I search, how do I clear the results to return to what I was doing before I searched?

    A. Open the Index menu and choose Clear.

    Q. Why does the program hang up when I try to paste more than (about) a dozen pages of text?

    A. This is a protective measure to prevent people from breaking copyright law by copying the whole text.

    Q. How can I make a shortcut on my desktop to the program?

    A. Double-click My Computer (on your desktop), then click through your C drive, Program Files, and Zondervan to Reference. Then right click on zrs32.exe and choose Create Shortcut from the menu that pops up. Drag this shortcut out of the window to your desktop.

    Q. How do I register this software?

    A. You can register your software right here online.

    Q. My question hasn’t been answered. Now what?

    A. Please click here technical support form and choose Software Technical Support from the first drop down menu.
