Q. How can I tell if my computer meets the system requirements listed on this software?
A. PC: There are several things you can tell by right clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop and choosing Properties. The resulting screen will show you what kind of computer you have, which version of Windows you are running, and how much RAM you have installed.
If you double-click on My Computer and then right click on the drive you would like to install the software on and finally choose Properties, the resulting screen will tell you if you have enough hard drive space available.
Mac: There are several things you can tell by going to the Apple menu and choose About this Computer. On the resulting screen, you will see the OS that you are running as well as how much memory you have installed. Other information is also available.
Q. I see the Ideas Library v. 3 is now available. How can I upgrade?
A. Please contact Zondervan ChurchSource at 800-727-3480 or thinkzcs@zondervan.com.
Q. : I get the following error when I try to print the handouts: "Offending Command = SansSeirf Error = nametype : undefined this name is not defined in a dictionary Stack = false _pdfStyleDicts --nostringval-- Adobe-Japan1 --nostringval-- Serif SansSerif HeiseiMaruGo-W4". What is wrong?
A. This is an incompatibility between Adobe Acrobat and your printer. Please go to the website for your printer and download the latest drivers.
Q. Why can't I find the "Absolute Power" skit?
A. This skit had to be removed for copyright reasons.
Q. I have been using the Keyword Search and I've tried to use the Enter key to start my search, but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
A. If you are trying to return to a search that is still entered in the Search field, make sure your cursor is active behind the text when you hit the enter key. If you haven't just typed the search text, hitting the Enter or Return key will do nothing.
Q. I'm trying to run the Ideas Library on MacOS X, and every time I click on a handout, I get an error message. What can I do to fix this?
A. The Ideas Library will only run in the Classic environment of MacOS X. You're encountering this problem because the version of Acrobat Reader that was available during production of the Ideas Library does not support viewing PDF's in a Web browser (Classic or OS X).
But just because it's not supported doesn't mean it can't work! If you're using Acrobat Reader 4, everything should work as long as you can view PDFs in your favorite Web browser under Mac OS X Classic. Acrobat Reader has a preference for checking and fixing your Web browser's ability to view PDFs.
If you're using Acrobat Reader 5, it may be launching in MacOS X rather than in the Classic environment. To solve this problem, go to the Dock and find the application icon for Acrobat Reader. Click and hold on the icon until you see the option Show in Finder. Clicking this should open a window containing the Acrobat Reader application. Highlight the icon by clicking it once and press COMMAND + I to Show Info. You could also CONTROL + CLICK on the icon and choose Show Info or highlight the icon and choose File > Show Info. Check the box at the bottom of the Info window that reads Open in the Classic environment. Again, you should confirm that your Web browser properly displays PDFs in Classic. Then launch Acrobat Reader before you run the Ideas Library. When you run the Ideas Library with Acrobat Reader already open in Classic, the program should work without error.
Q. On my Mac, whenever I click on a link to open a handout, it tries to install Adobe Acrobat, even though I already have it installed. What is wrong?
A. If this is happening in OS X, make sure you have followed the instructions in the FAQ above. If you are not running in OS X or you have exhausted the FAQ above, please uninstall all versions of Acrobat that you have installed. Then, rebuild your desktop. Finally, reinstall Acrobat 5 from the Ideas Library CD-ROM and try to open a hand out.
Q. The window in which the handout or illustration is supposed to appear in is empty. What do I do?
A. If the window for the handout opens up and is either white (Windows) or black (Macintosh), that means Adobe Acrobat isn't installed properly. Please uninstall your version(s) and reinstall from the CD-ROM.
Windows users should see an option to install on the screen that pops up when you insert the CD. You can also double-click on My Computer and double-click on the CD-ROM drive, and that screen will start up.
Macintosh users, double-click on the Ideas icon on the CD, then click on the Install Acrobat Reader link.
Q. I'd like to hide the Ideas Library so I can see my desktop. How do I do that?
A. Windows users can minimize the program by right-clicking on Ideas in the task bar located at the bottom of the screen. Then select Minimize to hide the program. To bring the program back up, right-click on Ideas Library again and select Restore.
Macintosh users can navigate to the Application Manager and select Hide Others to hide the program entirely. Another option for seeing your desktop is to use window shading (it hides the contents of the program's window). Use window shading by either double-clicking on the bar at the top of the window or clicking on the box on the right side of the program window.
Q. Will the Keyword Search let me look for phrases like my Internet browser does?
A. Well, you can't do "and," "or," "not," or "+" searches. But if you type in a phrase without quotation marks around it, you'll get a list of ideas whose titles or content contain that exact phrase.
Q. I'm scrolling through some great Creative Meeting ideas and the last word is missing from the idea title. What is that?
A. If you're a PC user, then you have Large Fonts selected in your Display settings. If you want to change this setting, first quit the Ideas Library. Now, right-click anywhere on your Windows desktop and select Properties from the pop-up list. You can now select the Settings tab and change Font Size to Small Fonts. You will then have to restart your computer.
Q. Not that I don't want to use The Ideas Library anymore, but I need to remove it from my hard drive. How do I do that?
A. Unlike most applications that run on Windows operating systems, where you use the Control Panel's Add/Remove Program utility to remove programs, simply navigate to the location on your hard drive where you saved The Ideas Library during installation. (The default location is on your C drive.) Select the Ideas Library 2 folder that contains the program and press the Delete key or move it to the Recycle Bin. (If you can't remember where it's located, you can right click on the shortcut to the program on your desktop and select Properties. Under the Shortcut tab you'll find the path to the program listed under Target.)
To make sure all references are off your system, remember to delete the shortcut off your desktop as well as the one in your Start menu. (To remove the one in your Start menu in Windows 98, 2000, or ME, simply right-click on the item in the Start menu and select Delete. If you're running Windows 95, navigate to C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and select the Ideas Library shortcut and press the Delete key. On Windows NT the shortcut in the Start Menu is installed under the profile of the user who performed the installation of the Ideas Library. Navigate to C:\WinNT\Profiles\[user name]\Start Menu\Programs and select the Ideas Library shortcut and press the Delete key.)
Mac users can simply drag the Ideas Library 2 folder to the trash.
